DSS Collects Record Food Drive Donations
For the third consecutive year, DSS participated in a food drive to benefit disadvantaged
families on Long Island, collecting more than 2,300 lbs. of donated goods.
This year’s Spring Food Drive resulted in the largest amount of food and other essential items
collected in the three years DSS has participated in the campaign.
This year’s drive, which ran from March 1 through March 25, collected a total of 2,338 lbs. of
donated items. This far surpassed the 1,770 lbs. of items collected to assist disadvantaged
families in 2023, and the 1,356 lbs. in 2022.
All goods collected during the drive were donated to Long Island Cares / The Harry Chapin
Food Bank. Long Island Cares supports child nutrition programs, food pantries, senior
programs, shelters, soup kitchens, and veteran’s programs across Long Island as well as a local
food bank in Freeport.
“This year’s success can be attributed to the continued generous support of our office, donors
being strategic and very focused on high-priority needed items, and the additional publicity of
food insecurity facing so many families on Long Island,” says Kathy Henderson, a Human
Resources Assistant at DSS’ corporate headquarters, who organized the DSS effort.
“I’m lucky to work with people who are so amazingly generous, and to be a part of a company in
which supporting our local communities is so highly valued,” she adds.
Giving back to the communities in which our team lives and works is a core principle for DSS.
We are proud to participate in the annual food drive and to support worthy causes like Long
Island Cares / The Harry Chapin Food Bank.
DSS thanks everyone who contributed to this year’s food drive!
