The DSS softball team weathered another hot summer, showing its skills on the softball fields of Manhattan.
Known as the “Doyle Destroyers,” the team has played for three seasons in the EDSO Sports League. They play games each week during late spring and summer in Central Park.
The team is part of EDSO’s Division 2, which includes softball teams from a wide range of organizations, like real estate developer Tishman Speyer, global banking giant BNP Paribas, publisher Simon & Schuster, satellite radio provider XM Sirius, and the running advocacy group New York Roadrunners Club.
The team reached this year’s playoffs. Despite an early lead, the Destroyers ultimately fell to the Sirius Radio team, 14 to 7. The Sirius team was this year’s regular season champion and #1 seed.
During the playoff game, Nate Kalle hit a home run, his fourth consecutive game with one and his sixth of the season. Phoebe May and Vanessa Vega also had hits in the game.
“All in all, we had a down season by Doyle standards,” commented Vice President—Business Development & Quality Assurance John Kalle, “but we had a great time.”
This year’s team featured many Destroyer veterans, including three-season players Christina Fichtl, Isaiah Furline, Delilah Kalle, Nate Kalle, and Glenn Leusink, as well as two-season veterans Miranda Kalle, Phoebe May, Jillian Duemesi, Angel Cintron, Christian Cardona, and Vannessa Vega
Destroyers’ co-captain Gerardo Molina’s family also provided a strong bench of players, including Stephanie Molina, Mike Molina, Uribe Molina, Fermin Flores, Brian Lucero, and Oscar Herrera.
“Our team members are the ultra-reliable people who kept this going,” Kalle notes. “Every season they show up and play their best. We thank them for their efforts and DSS President and CEO Mario J. Doyle, CPP, for continuing to support the team.”
Extra-workplace activities like the softball team help build connections between DSS team members, enhancing camaraderie and collaboration. DSS is proud to support the Destroyers and congratulates the team on reaching the playoffs again.
