DSS Wears Pink to Fight Breast Cancer

This month, members of the DSS Team came to work dressed in pink to support the fight against breast cancer.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Staff members in every DSS office wore an article of pink clothing to participate in the campaign to combat the deadly disease. DSS also donated to support research into breast cancer treatments and, hopefully, an eventual cure.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month has been observed in October every year since 1985. It is part of an international campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer and increase funding to develop new and improved treatments. Pink ribbons have been associated with the campaign against breast cancer since the early 1990s.

This year, more than 300,000 Americans will be diagnosed with breast cancer and, sadly, more than 42,000 will succumb to the disease, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Despite these grim numbers, scientists and physicians are making progress. The National Breast Cancer Foundation notes that death rates among American women battling breast cancer have dropped sharply over the past three decades, mostly due to better screening, early detection, and newly developed treatments.

Working toward a better world is a foundational principle for DSS. We are extremely proud to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month and donate money in search of a cure.

DSS thanks every team member who wore pink during October!
