DSS Vice President Publishes Article in New Industry Publication

DSS is pleased to announce that a new biannual newsletter from a local chapter of an international organization has published an important article by one of our senior executives.

Greg Sanfilippo, DSS Vice President—Intelligence, Risk Advisory & Strategic Initiatives, has written an article that appears in the premier issue of MHSDA Review, the newly-launched newsletter of the Metropolitan Healthcare Security Directors Association (MHSDA).

In the article, titled “From Reactive Security to Protective Intelligence in Healthcare,” Greg notes that the proactive “collecting, analyzing, and operationalizing of information to identify risk indicators” can help healthcare providers detect and mitigate risks before they turn into reputation-damaging incidents.

He notes that an effective security program that incorporates the use of Protective Intelligence “can help organizations shift resources from generalized [security] coverage models toward risk- informed deployment. Instead of assigning personnel based solely on generic staffing formulas, utilizing protective intelligence allows security leaders to align staffing and operational expectations with real-time threat conditions and predictive indicators.”

Greg also explains the positive effect of Proactive Intelligence on security training for healthcare providers, observing: “Security leaders who successfully integrate intelligence, assessment, and training create programs that are more agile, defensible, scalable, and aligned with enterprise risk management principles.”

The MHSDA is the New York City Metro Area chapter of the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS), the only industry group serving professionals who manage and direct security and safety programs in healthcare facilities. Founded more than 50 years ago, IAHSS now has more than 4,000 members whose expertise spans healthcare security, law enforcement, safety, and emergency management.

Established in 1950, the MHSDA works to raise standards for healthcare security and safety across the New York City metropolitan region through professional development, information sharing, and strategic networking.

Greg is a retired NYPD Sergeant, a former supervisor with the public-private intelligence-sharing initiative NYPD Shield, and a Major in the U.S. Army Reserves. His deep expertise in intelligence gathering and security planning is routinely sought by local and national media organizations for analysis of news events.

At DSS, we pride ourselves on having the most experienced security practitioners leading our operational and advisory divisions. Greg’s recent media appearances underscore DSS’s standing as an industry-leading authority in security risk management.
